WAGR Ranking Event 

The Clwyd Open Championship Incorporating the ‘Llangollen’ Trophy @ VLGC &

the Egerton Vase @ Wrexham GC

COMPETITION

1) The individual competitions, the ‘Llangollen Trophy’and the Egerton Vase, shall each be decided by gross aggregate score over 36 holes. In the event of a tie the winner shall be decided on the lowest score for the last 18 holes (or 9 or 6 or 3 or 1 hole). If a tie still arises the scores for the 1st round shall be treated in the same way until a decision is reached.

2) The overall Clwyd Championship winner shall be decided by the combined aggregate gross score for the ‘Llangollen Trophy’ & Egerton Vase over 72 holes. In the event of a tie there will be a sudden death play-off for the title.

ENTRIES,  REGISTRATION & CONDITIONS

3) Non members and Wrexham members – Entries to be made online at www.wrexhamgolfclub.co.uk/ by the closing date. [Alternatively contact the Manager at WrexhamGolf Club on 01978 364268 (Option 4)]

*VLGC Members will enter online on the VLGC Club App Competition Entry system.

4) Entries will be limited to 66 competitors. In the event of applications exceeding this number, entries from the highest handicap competitors will be decided by ballot, which will take place immediately after the closing date for entries. All unsuccessful entrants will be informed without delay thereafter but will be given the opportunity to compete if scratchings subsequently occur. Entrance fees will be refunded to entrants balloted out and who do not compete. Notice of withdrawal must be received in writing. Any competitors who withdraw after the closing date for entries will not have their entry fees refunded.

5) Entrants must conform in all respects to the R&A Rules of Golf Amateur Status.

6) Entries will only be accepted from players whose exact handicap index does not exceed six strokes (6.0) under the current WHS handicapping scheme. The exact handicap index at the date of entry will be used for all balloting purposes. Players must be in possession of a current WHS handicap certificate and present it at registration (WHS online handicap on your mobile is acceptable).

7) All entries shall be subject to the approval of the Championship and Rules Committee, which reserves the right to accept or refuse, or having accepted, subsequently reject, any entry without giving reason for its decision. This is a 72 hole event and competitors are expected to respect fellow competitors and play the full championship.

8) The Entrance Fee of £55 must be received by no later than 15:00hrs Tuesday 6th May 2025.

9) VLGC members shall enter by registering on the Club platform and paying £45 by the closing date; Wrexham GC members can enter on the Wrexham GC IG App System paying the £45 club member price.

10) The Championship Committee reserve the right to disqualify any competitor who makes a false statement on their Entry Form.

11) Competitors shall register at least 15 mins before their tee time at the respective Professional Shops where lunch can be pre-ordered. Any competitor who is not present on the first teeing ground when called upon to start shall be disqualified.

12) The Championship Committee reserve the right to fix and / or alter starting times. Start times for Sunday’s Egerton Vase @ Wrexham GC will be emailed to the competitors on Saturday evening after all scores have been returned.

13) It will be obligatory for all competitors in the Championship to play with a ball which is named in the current R&A list of Conforming Golf Balls, which can be accessed here: https://www.randa.org/en/explore-equipment/conforming-ball-list.

14) The attention of competitors is drawn to the list of prescribed drugs issued by the Sports Council, a copy of which is available on What’s banned in sport – the Prohibited List | UK Anti-Doping (ukad.org.uk).

15) If it becomes impossible to complete the Tournament in accordance with the above conditions because of adverse weather conditions or other circumstances, the Tournament Committee shall be empowered to vary such conditions to the extent necessary to achieve a result in the time available.

16) The use of ride on buggies is generally prohibited in Championship competitions. Players should walk at all times, unless permission to ride has been given by the Championship Committee. Permission will only be given in exceptional circumstances; application to use a ride on buggy must be made in writing at the time of entry to the Championship and Rules Committee who alone may authorise its use. An application to use a ride on buggy by a person who is disabled within the meaning of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 must be made by the player’s club supported by a medical certificate signed by a registered medical practitioner certifying that the player is a disabled person within the meaning of the Act and by reason thereof the player is unable to play golf without the use of a ride on buggy. Note: Even where permission might otherwise be given, the granting of permission will be subject to the conditions in force at the time by the host club. Permission may be refused under general health & safety grounds as provided for by the Act.

18) Practise rounds can be booked with each Pro Shop after your entry is confirmed on 01978 860906 (Option 2) for VLGC and 01978 364268 (Option 1) for Wrexham GC stating your name and handicap for Thursday 14th or Friday 15th May 2026 after 13:00hrs at a nominal cost of £20 at each venue, as required.

Clwyd Open: 1st   £300; 2nd   £200; 3rd   £150; 4th  £100

Best 72 hole Nett  £100;  2nd  £75

‘Llangollen Trophy’: 1st £100 &  2nd  £50   &  Best 36 hole Nett £50

Egerton Vase: 1st  £100  &   2nd  £50 & Best 36 hole Nett £50

20) Prize limits based on R&A rules of golf amateur status and limited to one prize in each category, Clwyd Championship, ‘Llangollen Trophy’ & Egerton Vase.

21) WAGR points will be based on the 72 hole gross score.

*Presentation of prizes will take place immediately following completion of play in the clubhouse of Wrexham Golf Club, on Sunday 17th May 2026.
